Up Girls Court Website » Lo'i – Service Learning – Cohort 10 (July 20, 2013) Slideshow

Ku'u Home Kulaiwi is Winona Chaney's (Aunty Nona) Lo'i in Waialua. It was one of those spectacular brilliant Hawaiian days, when Girls Court girls and staff stepped into the lo'i to clear the weeds, long grass and prepare the lo'i for future planting. We all got head to toe muddy, so it was, after working in the hot sun, a delicious moment to jump into the clean punawai (natural spring) to clean and cool off. Then Aunty Nona told us the history of her family living on the land and Public Health Nurse, Joan Takamori, instructed the girls to prepare a salad from greens grown in the garden. It was a fulfilling and beautiful day on the north shore.
